China Exchange to Stage First Play

On 9 June, China Exchange will host its first theatrical production – a performance of I’m Just Here to Buy Soy Sauce (我只是来打酱油的!), a new play supported by our Cultivate Programme.

The script, written by rising talent Jingan Young, explores Chinese investment and its impact on the London housing crisis.

The audience follow two couples – a pair of cut-throat real estate agents vying for the spotlight as they attempt to sell their latest million-pound property to a Chinese tycoon and a young couple, whose attempt to buy their first home together has left them picking up the pieces of their relationship.

Right after the performance, there will be a special Q&A session with a panel of experts from the property industry will examine the current state of London’s housing crisis and express their views on the notion of home Vs property.

Following rehearsal and development time at China Exchange, the play premiered during the Camden People’s Theatre “Whose London is it Anyway” festival in January. It has since gained support from a number of theatres and partners and will be on tour from May to August 2016. The performance and panel at China Exchange is a celebration of this successful cultivation.

Time of the performance: 8:00pm – 9:00pm

Time of the Q&A: 9:00pm – 9:30pm

Admission: £12 (£9 for concession) tickets available online and at door.
