From 14-01-20 to 22-02-20

Come and see The Making of Chinatown exhibition on tour at the Westminster City Archives, revealing the stories of the people who shaped London’s Chinatown into the unique district it is today. Discover how part of central Soho developed to become London’s Chinatown — an iconic part of the Capital. Adorned with ornamental gates, stone lions and gingko trees in the mid 1980s, Gerrard Street and the surrounding area emerged as a focal point for Chinese communities in the UK from the 1960s. Follow the stories of the people who arrived from Hong Kong in the swinging 60s to those coming from Mainland China today through oral histories collected in 2019 to share this hidden history with the public for the first time.

Entry into the exhibition is free. Please keep the stories of how Chinatown came into being alive by visiting.

This exhibition takes place at the City of Westminster Archives Centre during its opening hours. The Centre is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
