Music of Our Young Foundation Concert
The Orchestra’s Director, Gordon, entertained the audience with stories about the students and their accomplishments, with several students having already secured places at top universities in the UK and in China. The music has a unique sound, as it is played on both classical Chinese and classical Western instruments, with the haunting sounds of Chinese flutes and the ethereal guzheng playing in harmony with violins and cellos.
The orchestra performed some well-known favourites, including Me and You我和你, The Lotus Pond 採蓮謠, Spring in Tianshan 天山之春, Fengyang Flower Drum 鳳陽花鼓, Auld Lang Sine, and Highland Castle – with the last in this list bringing a tear to the eye of more than one China Exchange team member! The audience were also treated to a new piece composed by one of the students, who has a place to study at the Beijing Academy of Music.
One audience member said it was the “best concert I have ever been to” – watch the video to hear from or audience members and the musicians themselves!
