New research into Chinatowns soon to be published

For the past year, our CEO Freya has been researching Chinatowns in North America and South East Asia. Inspired by the rapid pace of change in London’s Chinatown and using a Fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, her final report on Chinatowns’ prospects for the future will be published later in the Spring – sneak previews will be available at the Ken Hom Annual Lecture next week and in the media.
Through research trips to San Francisco, Vancouver, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Freya explored how other Chinatowns understand their social, cultural, commercial and political purpose as these historical neighbourhoods change. Her final research report will summarise the challenges and opportunities that Chinatowns have in common and highlight examples of how London can learn from other Chinatown communities overseas.
