China in Context

China in Context, the first dedicated celebration of Chinese writers and writing in the UK, welcomed over 750 visitors to China Exchange for a very bookish weekend.

Activities included a book fair that allowed visitors to see the range of titles available; free family shadow puppet making sessions with Hatching Dragon’s, the UK’s first bilingual childcare provider; a poetry workshop;  language classes; a seminar to explore the collaboration between UK and Chinese publishers; panel discussions on creative writing inspired by China and travel writing based on adventures in China; an evening of open mic story telling; and on Sunday, hundreds of people enjoyed the very special Yaji, held with the talented musicians from the UK-Chinese Ensemble, celebrated artists Qu Leilei and Shoran Jiang, a display of beautiful ceramics from the China Design Centre, and tea master Liu Jiehua who visited us from Yunnan.

China in Context was presented in partnership with Cypress Books with the support of London Chinatown.
