Famed author of ‘Day of the Jackal’ and master of suspense writes:
I was born seventy-seven years ago in a small Kentish market town, the son of two shopkeepers, decent, kindly folk who in their millions make up the backbone of our country. After a conventional schooling locally they encouraged me to spread my wings (literally) and see the world.
And this I did, first as a pilot in the RAF, then a foreign correspondent and both finally and fortuitously as a scribbler of thriller novels. The intervening sixty years have taken me to seventy countries on five continents and finally to the pinnacle of human achievement – a friend of David Tang.
