140,000 men were recruited from China by Britain and France to serve during the First World War. Their contribution is yet to be recognised.

This curated collection of recently rediscovered photographs from the WJ Hawkings Collection documents the forgotten experiences of the men of the Chinese Labour Corps. The photographs are selected from the recent exhibition A Good Reputation Lasts Forever: The Chinese Labour Corps on the Western Front displayed at the Durham University Oriental Museum in 2017.
