Lunar New Year is one of the most popular times of the year for our award-winning History Champion volunteers to lead Chinatown Stories walking tours. Guests enjoy exploring Chinatown with someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about the area’s past, present and future. This year our special edition Lunar New Year tour is on Sunday 28 January 11:30am-2pm. Book ahead as this edition usually sells out and has a waiting list. Tickets are £36 including lunch.
In 2024, we also have a half-term edition of the Lunar New Year tour on Monday 12 February. This is a tour-only date and the content will be adapted for an 11+ audience – the juicy details will be delivered in an age-appropriate way and there’ll be extra special mentions for bubble tea!
Schools, companies and family groups all take the chance to spend a morning with us to explore Chinatown’s multiple layers of history and meaning at this special time of year. We regularly welcome several hundred people during the Spring Festival fortnight. Private tours can be arranged for 5 guests or more and cost £14 per person without lunch and £31 per person with lunch (a Cantonese meal served family style in a Chinatown restaurant). Lunar New Year is a fantastic time to visit Chinatown (and remember, Chinatown is for life, not only for Lunar New Year, we operate tours throughout the year too!).
