Discover what life is like on the cutting edge of international politics with author and former leader of the Liberal Democrats, Lord Ashdown of Norton-sub-Hamdon.

Paddy Ashdown’s extensive career has seen him serve in the Royal Marines, work for the Foreign Office, as an MP, party leader, and in youth unemployment services. He was unemployed himself, and is one of the only MPs to ever be elected to Parliament straight from the unemployment register. He is a fluent Mandarin speaker.

From 1988 to 1999, Paddy served as Leader of the Liberal Democrats. In the early 2000s, he served as International High Representative and European Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has been recognised for his peace work in the Balkans and his services to international relations.

Paddy has published nine books, and his latest book Game of Spies: the Secret Agent, the Traitor and the Nazi was released in September 2016. He is currently writing his tenth book on the story of the German Resistance against Hitler during the Second World War.

Come and hear about his extraordinary career in 60 Minutes with Lord Ashdown.
