A double bill showcasing masterpieces on the guqin and xiao flute and a guqin ensemble by musicians from the London Youlan Qin Society including Charles Tsua (guqin) and Dennis Lee (xiao). The concert will also feature virtuosi from the UK Chinese Music Ensemble, Cheng Yu (pipa), Wang Xiao (erhu) and Zhang Danhui (zhongruan lute) performing traditional and modern pieces.

The programme will include:

Three Variations on Plum Blossom (traditional)

Bells from the Silk Road (contemporary)

Sound of Spring (contemporary) and more…

The London Youlan Qin Society 

, established on 13th July 2003, is a London-based voluntary cultural organisation. Europe’s first and only such Society, it aims to promote interest in and understanding of China’s music, its culture, art, and philosophy, with a particular focus on the qin. The qin or guqin, the Chinese 7-stringed zither, is one of China’s most significant classical instruments, and was declared by UNESCO in 2003 as a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”. The society is committed to facilitating the educational development of Chinese musical culture and arts exchange between the UK, China and the rest of the world. The society president is Dr Cheng Yu, a leading UK Chinese musician and research associate at SOAS, University of London.
