Team Stitch Thread Their Needles

The latest group of volunteers has joined China Exchange to develop the Made in Chinatown project.  Six super stitchers, dubbed Team Stitch, have begun their work with textile artist, Ekta Kaul and are learning expert techniques for fine hand embroidery that will complete special handcrafted products.

In the first of four online sessions, the new volunteers had an in depth introduction to different embroidery stitches and styles. Over the coming months, Team Stitch will be meeting online to embellish Ekta’s beautiful reimagined heritage map of London’s Chinatown and turn these into unique handcrafted placemats, which will go on sale to celebrate Chinese New Year 2021.

Made in Chinatown is a project that brings together artists, community members and volunteers to create unique and beautiful objects that show the hidden stories, meaning and heritage of London’s Chinatown.

Made in Chinatown products are available for sale in our online shop and through local stockists.
