Opportunities to understand China, Chinese culture and Chinatown

Announcing Chinese Write Now 2022

We are delighted to share news of our Chinese Write Now Festival 2022. It is the third edition of the successful China in Context programme. The new name reflects the expanding scope of our programme, which celebrates writers and contemporary Chinese culture through writing. This year’s festival will highlight both new and acclaimed talent and bring people together to explore themes and ideas around identity and cultural experience.

We’ve got an exciting lineup of award winning and renowned speakers for the festival events and workshops, including:

Bestselling author and journalist Xinran Xue on creating female narratives and documenting experiences

Novelist Xiaolu Guo on contemporary Chinese literature

Costa Prize 2022 winning poet, Hannah Lowe on her latest work inspired by her heritage and Limehouse.

Taste Tibet author and restauranteur Julie Kleeman serving up stories of Tibetan food culture and building an award winning business through the pandemic

Young adult fiction writer Sue Cheung on creating narratives for young people

Chinese Write Now remains the first and only programme dedicated to exploring Chinese culture through writing in the UK. This year’s Festival is produced by China Exchange in partnership with the University of Nottingham’s Lakeside Arts, Confucius Institute, Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature, and others to curate and deliver the Festival’s dynamic programme. Events will be in person and online throughout May, June, and July. In-person activities available in Nottingham and London.
