First Products Launch – Made in Chinatown

The Gift of Hidden Heritage – a new way to support London’s Chinatown

Our unique range of gifts reflecting heritage stories of London’s Chinatown created by international artists and London volunteers launches online today! Add our beautiful Made in Chinatown products to your Christmas lists and take this chance to support Chinatown during this challenging year. All our sales support future community projects in the neighbourhood.

The items, produced by our project Made in Chinatown, feature the work of internationally exhibited artists Pui Lee and Ekta Kaul. Pui and Ekta completed residencies in London’s Chinatown and held workshops and activities with volunteers and community group members to inform their work. Both designs seek to highlight the areas of Chinatown that held significance for people and connected their experiences with this special place.

The range launches with Pui Lee’s hand carved woodblock print of a design focused on the migration journeys, arrivals and celebrations of the people who shape and are shaped by London’s Chinatown. The intricate woodblock design, produced using traditional Chinese techniques, will be available as art prints and stylish bone china mugs.

The first range includes a high quality cotton tea towel and a tote bag based on Ekta Kaul’s creative memory map. Using experiences offered by community members, Ekta’s design reimagines a map of London’s Chinatown highlighting the heritage that we cannot see and creates iconic blue plaques to show the Chinese history of the area. Hand embroidered maps based on Ekta’s design and produced by Made in Chinatown volunteers will be available by the end of 2020.

Items are available to pre-order via the Made in Chinatown online shop and will be delivered in December 2020. All profits from these products fund future heritage and community projects in Chinatown.
