Opportunities to understand China, Chinese culture and Chinatown

140,000 men were recruited by Britain and France to serve in World War One. They are yet to be formally recognised, and there is no memorial to them. We would like this to change.

Following our 2017 exhibition of photographs of the Chinese Labour Corps and memorial service, this talk Remembering the Chinese Labour Corps was led by Historian Frances Wood and formed part of China Exchange’s ongoing support for the Ensuring We Remember campaign.

In this talk Frances Wood gave explored the history of these men, and discussed why their contribution was hidden for so long. Click here to find out more about the campaign for a permanent memorial to ensure the men are not forgotten.
