A Soul Stirring Night with Di Xiao’s Piano Performance Femmes de Légende

On 24 January, renounced Chinese pianist Di Xiao performed a selection of music she curated to celebrate the legendary women in music and their muses at China Exchange. Di Xiao is a talented classical pianist based in the UK. Originally from China, she boasted being in the top 10 up and coming Chinese pianists in 2009. She has great passion in music education and developed many creative projects to engage classical music with a wider audience.

In this performance Di Xiao focused on sharing and promoting living female composers and pieces that are inspired by females namely: French composer Cécile Chaminade and RuiQi. It also includes some all-time classics: Chopin’s Nocturne in B flat, the ‘rain drop’ Preludes and the famous ‘Minute Waltz’. These pieces were inspired & dedicated to Chopin’s muses: countess Delphina Potorka & Geroge Sand.  Other works include the vibrant ‘Jamaican Medley’ by Alberga, which brings sunshine, sea breeze imagery.

As the night drew to a close, the audience expressed absolutely delight at Di Xiao’s performance and refreshed their views on female’s role in classical music. It turned into a very successful event as part of our Chinese New Year celebration of 2019.
