New funding for Made in Chinatown

China Exchange’s innovative project Made in Chinatown will continue for a further 12 months following support from The National Lottery Awards for All scheme.

Made in Chinatown brings together community members and volunteers with artists who then produce designs for unique products rooted in Chinatown’s heritage. These products are sold to support future community projects.

This new Awards for All grant will allow for two artists to undertake residencies in Chinatown and work with community members through workshops and activities that focus on the meaning and memories created in London’s Chinatown. The artists will focus on intangible food cultural heritage in their creative process, an aspect of heritage which will also be explored in China Exchange’s Champion Chinatown Heritage projects.

A pilot in 2018 was followed by a full phase in 2019-2020 supported by Rothschild Foundation. We are delighted to continue our project and making an impact in this way through the support provided by The National Lottery Awards for All scheme.
